The AFTR chapter has organized several standing committees. At luncheons members often bring items such as foodstuffs, books, school supplies, etc. for those less fortunate.
The Contributions Committee distributes these charitable contributions. Sylvia Borne is the chairperson. Sylvia has also spear-headed AFTR of NJ's volunteerism at the Food Bank in Hillside.
The Sunshine Committee responds to the personal needs and misfortunes of the members. Maddy Spitz is the chair.
The Publicity Committee provides regular newspaper coverage for special programs and the regular meetings. Susan Dougherty volunteers her expertise in this area as chair.
In conjunction with the retirees of the Newark Teachers Union, the Trips Committee has offered a series of trips and access to various activities' websites. Viviane Levy is our liaison.
- Ray Peterson is the chairperson of the Nominating Committee
- Pete Lamprakos is serving as chairperson of the Legislative Committee.
- Linda Duke is not only the Treasurer of AFTR but she also is chairperson of Membership. She, Carol Dragon and Mary Hamfeldt conduct the annual financial review.
- Luncheon centerpieces have been beautifully arranged by Dory Logan and Karen Rusin.
- Jim Dougherty (webmaster), Len Ferrara (editor of newsletter) and Dottie Gutenkauf all help "spread the news" to AFTR members.
- At present a Speakers Committee chairperson is needed.
